The Centro Botín is an art centre designed by the Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano and located in a special spot in Santander. Through a broader urban intervention, Renzo Piano has managed to integrate the city centre and the historic Jardines de Pereda with the Bay of Santander.

Light and lightness were essential concepts in the architect’s designs for the project. The building juts out over the sea, without touching the ground, perching on pillars and columns at the same height as the crowns of the trees in the Jardines de Pereda, acting as a sort of ‘pier’ on the water. This elevation lets the maximum possible light through and ensures views over the bay: all part of a total integration with the environment.

The Centro Botín, an invaluable space for the region, is an extraordinary place for encountering culture. Its varied rooms display collections by renowned international artists and play host to cultural events that proudly bring art, music, cinema, theatre and literature closer to the public.

For the 2022 edition, SILC attendees will visit one of the most important nature reserves in Cantabria: an old mining area where around 120 different animal species now live in the most natural conditions possible. More than twenty kilometres of tracks zigzag across this nature park, leading visitors to incredible gorges, peaceful lakes, evocative rock figures and natural spaces where the animals roam free.

SILC 2022 will end with a closing banquet, where attendees will be able to unwind and enjoy Cantabrian cuisine in a unique setting characteristic of the region.
