Sebastián Álvaro is a journalist, mountaineer and author. In 1981, he created and directed Al filo de lo imposible (“On the Edge of the Impossible”), an adventure documentary series that became one of the most influential programs in Spanish television and a benchmark in adventure filmmaking worldwide.

For more than three decades, he led some of the world’s most significant adventure expeditions, including ascents of all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, polar crossings, and explorations in remote regions such as Antarctica, Tierra del Fuego, the Karakoram and the Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon. Under his leadership, Al filo de lo imposible helped promote a vision of adventure rooted in exploration, knowledge, environmental conservation and cultural diversity.

Throughout his career, he has directed more than 250 expeditions and produced over 350 documentaries, earning numerous national and international awards. He is the author of 35 books, a sought-after speaker and a regular contributor to leading media outlets. Today, he continues to lead high-level expeditions and supports development and cooperation projects in Pakistan through the Sarabastall Foundation.
